Description
Spinach is believe to have originated in ancient Persia and then spread on to other parts of the world. In ancient China, it was known as persian vegetable. There are three types of spinach namely Savoy which has dark green and curly leaves, Smooth leaf spinach which have broader leaves and the semi-Savoy variety which is the hybrid of the above two.
Spinach is highly nutritious and is an excellent source of the vitamins K, carotenoids (vitamin A), B2, B6, E and C. The minerals spinach contains are manganese, folate, iron, magnesium, copper and calcium. It is a good source of dietary fiber too along with zinc and phosphorus.
